A foundation to foster and sustain connections between communities, nature, and horses.

Our Vision:
To preserve the historic traditions, relationships and properties of our unique equestrian community.

The Woodbrook Foundation fulfills this vision through historical reenactments of riding to the hounds which began in 1892 when the Tacoma Riding Club hosted its first paper chase.  Through educational programs and clinics, The Woodbrook Foundation is dedicated to teaching the art and science of mounted foxhunting in the tradition of “drag foxhunting” and safe cross-country riding.

We also promote the preservation of the Nisqually Prairie by helping protect the endangered and threatened species for the benefit of future generations.  In 1938, the current clubhouse was completed and in 1997 the Woodbrook Hunt Club was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as established by the National Park Service. Reenactments are run from September thru May on JBLM in Lakewood, Washington.

What is "drag foxhunting"?
Drag hunting is much like foxhunting except there is no fox or other animal hunted. A field of mounted riders follow a pack of hounds. The hounds have been specially trained to follow a scent laid down by a person. Read More
